| The Book of Literary Terms by Lewis Turco (University Press of New England. 1999) defines Bildungsroman as; "An apprenticeship novel that shows the development and civilizing of a young person as he or she matures, like the Kunstlerroman, which is specifically about the development of an artist. This definition would seem to imply that Jacob's Room is more a Kunstlerroman because of Jacob's writing, but his premature death does not gives us adequate time to clear up the definition. | ||
